The new Wingspan from Rudy Project is the latest aero helmet from a manufacturer that has been a pioneer in time-trial helmet designs. Available in matte colors Black/Silver, White/Silver and Red/Blue/White, the Wingspan has received notice for its unique shape and striking looks. Weighing in at 349g, the Wingspan exceeds CPSC requirements and is lighter than Rudy Project's previous model, the Syton. It includes Rudy Project's R.S.R. 7 Disc retention system for single-handed on-the-fly adjustments and has ear covers incorporated into the helmet's shell for maximum aerodynamics. Designed with the aide of legendary aerodynamics guru John Cobb, the Wingspan has undergone extensive wind tunnel testing to become the best TT helmet on the market. Through this testing, Rudy Project and Cobb developed the Wingspan's unique tail design that works best for all TT positions and back profiles, specifically the "flat" and "U" shapes most people display.

To add to its versatility, the Wingspan includes a mesh front vent cover that is perfect for use in a triathlon and a closed front vent cover for use in a time-trial event. Also, the Wingspan includes massive exhaust vents that keep the head cool and, for the purest of aerodynamics, the Wingspan comes with a removable tail cover that greatly reduces any turbulence created at the tail, an industry first. With the Wingspan, its ground-breaking design can be applied to any rider with optimal results making it the best option for any serious triathlete or competitive cyclist.
  1. Great aero helmet Review by Dirk
    Satisfaction

This is a proven winner. First, the flat black looks fantastic (and fast). I like that this helmet's rear is not huge so that if my head is down I don't get as much resistance as some of the other helmets. It is well packaged and includes a nice manual showing the different speed gains for different vent inserts. The fit is good. The only downside about this helmet is it is very noisy with regard to airflow around the ears. However, I believe that it is a trait of any helmet that has flaps coming around the ears. It is not a helmet you would not want to train with much on open roads with lots of passing traffic because you cannot hear well including riding partners ("car back!"). I'm sure gains will be fairly minimal but hey, every second does somtimes count! On my maiden ride with this helmet I grabbed a hotly contested Strava segment spot I had been eyeing by 1 second! 2. Fits like a dream Review by Josh Shimel*

I've used a few different Areo helmets through the years, and this helmet has surpassed them all. The fit is excellent, with enough room to get the helmet on and off with ease. The venting capabilities is second to none. For the Sprint and Olympic distance I remove the vent and go with the solid cover (Free Speed). During those long races (half/Full Ironman) I like to use the vent to keep cool. I'd like to see a few more color options though. (Posted on 11/25/13)

  3. LOVE IT! Review by Laura Hartman*

My favorite helmet ever! Just wore it at ITU World Championships and in all that rain it kept me safe and cozy and really gave me a tremendous sense of security as well. 5 gold stars :) (Posted on 11/25/13)

  4. Free Speed Review by Erik
    Satisfaction

When I first came into the sport, I guffawed at people who would wear the aero helmets. Now, well, let's just say I've been converted. It's free speed - in that you don't have to do anything physically to go faster. Awesome product. I've had mine personalized and couldn't be happier. Hope to never need it in a crash, but love the additional horsepower it provides. (Posted on 10/4/13)

  5. Get what you pay for Review by Tom Hayden
    Satisfaction

I have used this helmet from a Sprint, TT and Ironman distance. The flexibility of pieces allow for multiple distances and a variety of airflow.

Try on before you buy, I have a large head 7 1/2 hat size and it fits, but not a whole lot of extra room. Get the bright color, I'm easily spotted during the race and I never miss my bike in transition. (Posted on 5/22/13)

  6. Awesome if it fits Review by Kevin Smith

Love this helmet. Was concerned about the fit, but my he'd just made the cut. Very light and cool (temp perspective). (Posted on 2/20/13)

  7. Best of the Best Review by Tom Hayden
    Satisfaction

I've tried several aero helmets with a wide variety of tail lengths and I always come back to my rudy project. It is the lightest and best all around helmet for varying conditions and triathlon course lengths.

Keep all of your helmet pieces, or make friends with reps at Expos because currently Rudy does NOT make replacements if you loose a tail cover. (Posted on 2/4/13)

  8. Incredible helmet Review by Kerry Martin*
    Satisfaction

This helmet feels all-around aero in most riding conditions. Head turtled or not; looking forward or down; arched back or flat... they all feel like you're still getting an aero advantage. With plenty of options of ventilation, you only need one helmet for most of your races from early spring 'til late fall. Great quality, comfort, and overall fit. Some people have complained about the one-size-fits-all, but I found it highly adjustable to give a great fit. (Posted on 1/12/13)

  9. Great helmet Review by Allie

I have used this helmet for a few races and LOVE IT! Comfortable, light, has options to make it more or less breathable, and seems to hold up very well. (Posted on 10/13/12)
