You already know that Steve Hed invented the deep section aerodynamic wheel. As wheel technology and racing evolved from Steve Hed's original research and engineering the need for a wheel with a deeper aerodynamic cross section became evident for riders at high average speeds. The HED Jet 9 FR was born.
Ridden by athletes like Viatcheslav Ekimov and Chrissie Wellington, the HED Jet 9 FR is built for "ultra cruise" speeds at the top of the bike split results. The faster you go, the more benefit a deeper wheel provides. The HED Jet 9 FR also strikes an optimal compromise between excellent crosswind stability and extremely low drag at speed. It is an excellent compromise of rear disk wheel speed with conventional rim stability and weight savings.
The latest HED Jet 9 FR has shaved 54 grams per rim off the previous rim weight, improving acceleration and climbing performance. The new SCT (Stability Control Technology) rim section increases wheel stability and reduces drag even further. The new SCT rim profile also increases ride comfort.
The unique HED Jet construction means the spokes on the HED Jet 9 FR run the entire length from the hub to the alloy rim inside the deep aero section. This increases spoke length to improve ride quality and aerodynamics by concealing the spoke nipple inside the rim out of the wind.
As with all HED FR wheels the HED Jet 9 FR uses the proprietary HED Flamme Rouge hub with a lightweight carbon fiber hub shell and extremely low rolling resistant ABEC 5 sealed bearings. Even the quick release skewers are ultra-lightweight, high strength titanium.
HED Jet 9 FR wheels weigh 1969 grams per pair; front wheel is 895 grams; rear wheel is 1074 grams. The HED jet 9 FR wheelset has an 18 spoke, radially laced, bladed front and robust 24 spoke, cross 2 drive side, radial non-drive side rear wheel. The stainless steel, bladed, aerodynamic spokes are silver. The HED FR Sonic rear hub has a special grease port for the freehub bearings only, the internal wheel bearings are sealed.

Satisfaction I've had these for about a year and absolutely love them! I was considering the Zipp 808's but too $$$ and really happy I went with the Jet's. Super fast, handle great and was impressed how well the front handles in windy conditions. (Posted on 1/5/13)

Satisfaction these are super fast wheels and although a full carbon rim may be a bit lighter I really like the fact that I don't have to deal with, or change brake pads all the time or worry about every pothole i hit. at 2/3rd's the price of 808's this is a no brainer.
